MUSICAL GENIUS

Poster advertising the Wild Things CDAs well as being intrigued by computers, Dean’s also really into music. He makes his own music during weekly classes at City Lit. One of Dean’s musical compositions has been included on CD

The compilation, Wild Ones – Sounds of the Disabled Underground, features 16 artists with learning disabilities, all from the UK, and all doing their very own thing.

Heavy Load reckon this album will be essential listening for anyone interested in the disabled arts scene, or outsider music.

Dean has posted the track on his own MySpace page and it can be heard along with tracks by other contributors on MySpace page dedicated to the Wild Ones CD. The CD can be bought for the princely sum of a fiver. Why not have a listen or buy a copy?

DOUBLE CELEBRATION FOR KEVIN

Kevin blows out the candles on his birthday cakeUsually it’s only the Queen who has two birthdays, but this year Kevin took a leaf out of her regal book and had a double celebration for his 50th. On his actual birthday Kevin’s family organised a BBQ at his Mum’s place. His key worker Dorothy and I accompanied him there. It was a big family reunion for Kevin as he hadn’t seen his mum since Christmas. He was reunited with his two sisters for the first time in many years, and got the chance to meet his nieces and nephews for the first time. The family reunion came about as a result of Person Centred Planning work that Dorothy had undertaken with Kevin and Hilt’s PCP Co-ordinator, Almudena.

Two weeks later the staff team who work with Kevin organised a big party at the Care Home where he lives. Service users and staff from many Hilt services had the opportunity to celebrate with Kevin. The food was delicious and was prepared by the projects very own chef Sola, helped by other members of the staff team

People really let their hair down at the party. Guests continued arriving and enjoyed dancing late into the night. Both celebrations are certainly nights that Kevin will remember for a long time.
